Loc. Caramello, Fontana Pradosa
Villa Caramello, originally a Rocca (stronghold) as attested by the plan and glacis, owes its current appearance to Marchese Gaetano Paveri Fontana from the beginning of the 18th century. The project that transformed the castle in a villa began in 1739 with the intervention of the famous scenographer and architect Ferdinando Galli Bibiena. The Villa, introduced by a 1 km alley sided by trees, still has a large pont to the front as a decorative element with sinuous low walls, vases, and statues. The façade of the Villa is characterised by alternate doors and windows typical of Bibiena's style, presenting a Roman-style upper decoration. The building is divided in four small buildings around a central court: in the back building, where guests were welcomed, there is a loggia with a double nave and the large staircase ending in an ample semicircular walkway. On the inside, the elegant Cappella di San Gaetano is decorated by beautiful stucco pieces, the Galleria above with trompe l'oeil decorations by Francesco Natali, the main guest room, the tea room. The restoration works for the Villa won the Gazzola award in 2008.
