Close by the village of San Pietro in Cerro (Piacenza province) the visitor is fascinated by the majestic appearance of time translated into lasting architecture: the castle of San Pietro in Cerro, built in the 15th century on the plain area surrounding Piacenza. The castle was founded in 1491, as stated in the epigraphy on a stone in the inner courtyard, by the hands of Bartolomeo Barattieri. Its structure is rectangular, with a donjon at the entrance and two round towers to defend the northern side, the castle seems austere and compact on the outside. Inside, an elegant square court with a double order of arcades with a delicate decoration that lends a light and harmonious character to the structure. The indoor rooms present a large reception room covered with a wooden beamed ceiling with decorated and notched ledges with acanthus leaves. The room is decorated with falcon hunting scenes, to complete the attentively picked furniture resulting from the relentless research for the signs of time by the current owner of the castle. Every single element reflects this passion for detail: from armours to furniture, from wallpapers to tapestries, from armchairs to monstrance thrones, fireplaces and lamps. To go back in time it is necessary to see how everyday life evolved: the kitchen on the ground floor still preserves pottery and the chain cauldron, dishes, all elements that contributed to make this laboratory of tastes and traditions a special place in the castle. Another amazing experience is the discovery of the prison inside a tower, still preserving the chains used to keep prisoners inside. The library has a rich and important collection of ancient volumes about the history of Piacenza. Soon, the castle will also include a themed room with ancient armours from all over Europe.
The castle is the ideal venue for conferences, concerts, exhibitions, photo shoots, presentations, wedding parties, banquets and gala dinners.
