Province of Piacenza. Welcome to the Official Tourist Information SiteScudo Piacenza

People wearing beautiful medieval and renaissance costumes walk through Grazzano Visconti, jugglers, acrobats, soldiers and knights.
On Saturday evening the village comes alive with a show from people clothed in medieval costumes.
On Sunday, the village squares are animated by a parade of the Historical Group.
Throughout the weekend: themed menu in all restaurants in the village, medieval stands and artisans' stands from 700 years ago. Arts and crafts from the Middle Age are presented through practical workshops and a detailed presentation of all goods and tools on show.

The historical parade deals with an event that took place on the last Sunday of May in the late 14th century. This is how the story goes: the borough has been grandly decorated by the count Giovanni Anguissola to meet the beautiful Valentina Visconti, who is travelling to France to meet the duke of Orléans, her husband-to-be.
To celebrate the young Valentina and pick those who would escort her to France, the count of Grazzano organised a Palio testing the skills, abilities and bravery of knights from the different houses in Piacenza: the Anguissola from Vigolzone, Travo and Altoé, the Nicelli from Alta Valnure and the Malaspina from Bobbio.

On Sunday, Valentina and her entourage guide the parade of nobles from Piacenza and the surrounding territory. The squares in the borough are animated by merchants selling their goods, jugglers, storytellers and musicians.

Finally, Valentina's parade reaches the tournament field to enjoy the last Palio competition, the riding challenge. The winning house will have the honour of accompanying the Valentina Visconti on her journey.
