BESENZONE

Description
The first settlements in this area (Terramare di Colombare not far from Bersano) have a certain prehistoric origin, and there are no doubts about their agricultural organization, that has been characterizing the local economy since the Roman time. However, in the High Middleages, the area became known as Aucia (marshy place), and rural life started again only with Pallavicinos fief. The name probably derives from the son of Mesenzio, king of Tuscany, who built a castle here. The castle no longer exists.
