THE LEGEND OF THE HUNCHBACK BRIDGE

Description
A legend recalls that St. Columba, who couldn't cross river Trebbia because of the constant floods, was sad as he was not able to spread the word of God among the villagers on the opposite bank. The devil visited him and agreed on building a bridge in exchange for the soul of the first living being who would cross it. The Saint accepted and the bridge was built overnight with the help of eleven demons supporting the arches, but because they were not of the same height, the bridge ended up with a hump ('gobbo'). St. Columba liked the bridge anyway and he held on to his word by asking his faithful bear to cross the bridge first.
