VIGOLENO CASTLE

Description
The castle probably already existed in the 10th century, it was rebuilt at the end of the 14th century by Scotti family after a complete war destruction, and it became a residence in the 17th century. Most of the defensive devices face the south-western side, from which attacks were more frequent. The donjon has a square plan and is supplied with embrasures. Inside theres a didactic path with specific photographic documents about the village and its architectural peculiarities. The donjon is connected by means of a communication trench to the south tower and also to the castle residential side, which is presently a private property. The residential parts have been widely rearranged and in the 18th and 19th century and recently: very little remains of the originary structure: some lacunar ceilings and a small theatre with original elements dating back to the 18th century.
