Piazzale delle Crociate, 5
Renaissance architecture jewel, mature masterpiece by the architect Alessio Tramello from Piacenza. It was built between 1522 and 1528 to preserve the polichrome wooden image of a miraculous Madonna della Campagnola. The geometrically clean façade contrasts with an interior which is extremely rich in pictorial ornaments, paintings and decorations. The church preserves a very meaningful cycle of frescoes by Giovanni Antonio Sacchi , called Pordenone, who left here one of his most important works (1529-31), located on the dome (biblical figures and mithological scenes) and in the first two left chapels (SantAgostino, Santa Caterinas wedding, Adoration of the Magi, Shepherds adoration, Escape in Egypt). Inside there are also works by Galeazzo, Giulio and Bernardino Campi, Camillo Procaccini, Guercino, Malosso, De Longe, F. Bibiena, Stern, Avanzini.
